Editorial Reviews
From The New Yorker
This form of a anticipation author and artist Henry Darger, whose life's work was detected in a tiny room in Chicago after his death, in 1973, creates for a constrained and rather unfortunate entertainment. The documentarian Jessica Yu spent years putting together a pieces of Darger's masterwork-a fifteen-thousand-page illustrated novel about a child-slave rebel in a far-off world. The illustrations are fascinating and disfigured (mostly exposed small girls embellished as hermaphrodites), and Yu animates several of them while Darger's content is read, giving life to a weird story. Like many eccentrics, Darger voiced his stupidity by art. -Bruce Diones
