'Elvis' monkey, psychedelic gecko found in SE Asia

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) â€" A unusual gecko and a gorilla with an "Elvis" hairdo are among 208 new class described final year by scientists in the Mekong River region of Southeast Asia, a charge organisation announced Monday.

The animals were detected in a bioperse segment that is threatened by medium loss, deforestation, meridian change and overdevelopment, a WWF pronounced in a report.

The newly described class embody a "psychedelic gecko" in southern Vietnam and a nose-less gorilla in a remote range of Myanmar that looks like it wears a pompadour.

"While this species, sporting an Elvis-like hairstyle, is new to science, a internal people of Myanmar know it well," a Switzerland-based organisation pronounced in a report.

The segment is home to some of a world's many endangered species, including tigers, Asian elephants, Mekong dolphins and Mekong hulk catfish, a organisation said.

"This is a segment of unusual brilliance in terms of biopersity though also one that is intensely fragile," pronounced Sarah Bladen, communications executive for WWF Greater Mekong. "It's losing biopersity during a comfortless rate."

The Mekong flows by China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
